Madrid does not face the sea, as it is located inland in Spain
Madrid does not face the sea, as it is located inland in Spain, but there are options for finding inland beaches or taking trips to the coast. The main alternatives include the artificial beaches of the San Juan Reservoir, such as El Muro and Virgen de la Nueva, the river beach of Estremera, and future projects like Alovera Beach in the province of Guadalajara.
Inland and Lakeside Beaches
- San Juan Reservoir: About 70 km from Madrid, it is known as the “Madrid beach” and offers authorized swimming areas such as El Muro and Virgen de la Nueva.
- Estremera Beach: Located 60 km from the city, in the municipality of Estremera, this is a bathing area with facilities and access also allowed for pets.
- Other Options: There are other river beaches in the region, such as those at Madrid Río and Playa del Alberche.
Future Artificial Beaches
- Alovera Beach: An ongoing project in Alovera (Guadalajara) that will create an artificial beach about an hour from Madrid.
Trips to the Sea
Destinations: It is possible to reach the beaches of the Mediterranean or the Atlantic by public or private transport.
Distance from the Sea: The nearest coast is about 350 km from Madrid.
