Historical curiosity
In the past, during the 14th and 15th centuries, Pavia had a role connected to water, but not to the sea. The Visconti created the position of “captain of the fleet” in Pavia, responsible for managing boats on the Po River and other waterways of the Duchy of Milan, as well as taking care of the maintenance of embankments and bridges.
